Hakone Shrine Location: 80-1 Motohakone, Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa, Japan. Save on Google Maps. See the iconic bright orange torii gate standing on the serene waters of Lake Ashi. This one of the most photogenic spots I’ve seen in Japan! After taking photos from the lakeshore, follow the steep stairs up Komagate hill to see the main structures of Hakone Shrine. A cable car is also available. To get to Hakone Shrine, simply walk (600m) along the lakeside path from the Motohakone-ko cruise pier. Created 3,000 years ago by a volcanic eruption, scenic Lake Ashi is surrounded by mountains and a chance to get a different view of Mount Fuji from the lake’s southern edge. The best way to get around the lake is by cruising on the Pirate Ship. You can hop on/hop off at Togendai-ko, Motohakone-ko, and Hakonemachi-ko. 3. Owakudani Volcanic Valley & Sulphur Vents Owakudani sulfur mine in Hakone, Japan Location: Ōwakudani Ropeway Station, Hakone. Save on Google Maps. Have a unique experience & get close to an active volcano! Visit Owakudani to see the incredible scenery of sulfur pits. Don’t leave without a taste of the famous Kuro tamagotchi black eggs. Hard-boiled for an hour in the hot spring waters of Mount Hakone, this delicacy is said to increase your life expectancy by seven years. The Hakone Ropeway ferries passengers between Togendai (Lake Ashi lakeside), Owakudani and Gora. This smooth and comfortable cable car ride is a must when in Hakone. 5. Mishima Skywalk Location: 313 Sasahara Shinden, Mishima, Shizuoka 411-0012, Japan. Save on Google Maps. Cross the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Japan!
