As the ancient capital of Laos until 1975, Luang Prabang holds the most significant attractions you may want to see to experience the best of the country.

Luang Prabang is a laidback town teeming with high-spirited tourism features. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site famed for an exquisite array of French colonial buildings and well-preserved Buddhist temples and monasteries. One of the former royal capital’s best attractions is Mount Phousi, a sacred mountain featuring 300 steps, which will take you to the summit where the temple is and where you can witness a panoramic view of the city. Other top sites you cannot miss are the Pha Tad Ke Botanical Gardens, Kwang Si Falls, and the Buddhist temple Wat Xieng Thong. You also should not leave Luang Prabang without tasting its tasty treats. Head to the Night Market from 5pm-10pm and partake in delicious but affordable street food like spring rolls, fried mushrooms, and grilled meat and seafood.

Luang Prabang International Airport has direct flights to Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia. You may also cross the border at Chiang Khong in Thailand to Huay Xai and take a boat through the scenic countryside.
