Butuan City is a sprawling urbanized city located in Agusan del Norte, in the Caraga Region of the Philippines. It is an old civilization that dates back to the 4th Century. Today, it is a worthy tourist stop for anyone exploring Mindanao, with its fair share of unique attractions and activities.
Butuan City’s greatest pride is probably the Balangay Boat Building Site, located in Barangay Bading. It's an ethereal field where native Filipinos built the pre-colonial wooden boat they used for cargo, trading, and battles. A replica of the oldest balangay excavated in Butuan, believed to have existed since 320 AD, is on display at the site overlooking the Agusan River. Other sightseeing attractions in Butuan City include the Sto. Niño Cathedral, Banza Church Ruins, Guingona Park, Magellan’s Anchorage, and the Butuan National Museum.
Outside the city are other beautiful tourist spots to explore. Butuan City serves the gateway to the Agusan provinces, Surigao provinces and Dinagat Islands.
